Intense Noise Rock
What exactly is noise rock? Bascially it is lots of heavy
distortion, distorted vocals, big angry drums, and lyrics
that could have been written by a serial killer. It is music
that fits that dark, far off side of a twisted personality.
To some it really sounds like NOISE, to others it is beautiful
music. You either completely understand it or you don't.
Essential Noise Rock Record
Labels:
Amphetamine Reptile Records
- Some of the best on this label are Hammerhea, early Cows,
and Today is The Day.
Trance Syndicate Records - Best bands: Crust,
Distorted Pony, and Cherubs.
Skin Graft Records - Best bands: Mama Tick,
Mount Shasta, and Shorty.
Gasoline Boost - Bands: Big 'N, Shorty.
Choke, Inc. - bands like Milkmine, Jaks -
lesser known label, so many of these bands went unnoticed.
Recommended CDs:

Vaz - Lie That Matches The
Furniture CD
2005 CD
Ex AmRep Hammerhead, 3rd CD.
Chreubs
- Heroine Man
13 Tracks
Awesome Songs like: Baby Huey,
Wornout Balls, Coonass.
Great CD cover too! on Trance Syndicate, from 1994.
Shorty
- Fresh Breath - CDEP
5 Tracks
Sounds like a really really angry Jesus
Lizard. They also released a full CD called Thumb
Days - Chris Dodge (Stikky) gave Thumb
Days a really bad review in MRR (record is actually
very good) and the band took out an interesting retaliation
ad in the following issue of MRR (1993). Some people just
don't get the Noise Rock - Chris Dodge is a really cool person
too, but everyone can't like everything.

Mount Shasta - Put the Creep On
11 Tracks
On Skin Graft Records. Pretty close to
the sound of Shorty - Noisy, psychotic and insane. The cover
art should just about explain it.
More Noise Rock bands:
Live
Skull - much more mellow compared to Hammerhead
or Mount Shasta, but they are often called noise rock.
VAZ
- This is Ex-Hammerhead - full intensity noise rock!
Swans - slower sludge rock, not all that
noisy, but also called noise rock.
Of Cabbages and Kings - (see Swans)
Sonic Youth - Also called noise rock, but
they really don't fit with the regular noise rock bands.
Lung
- Three Heads on a Plate - Similar to an AMRep
sound. This is their second release, their first one is called
Cactii - Cactii is VERY HARD to find. They
used to be called CLEAR - they released 1 record called Live
Stomach in 1990. Too bad all of this is hard to find.
Other Recommended Noise Rock CDs:
Mount Shasta - Who's the Hottie CD - usually
on Amazon for under $3
Mount Shasta - Watch Out CD - worth it for
the Tang Dynasty track
Dazzling Killmen - Face of Collapse - slow
and WAY OVERPRICED at around $40 used!
Engine Kid - Bear Catching Fish - CD - lesser
known, slower heavy, on C/Z
Milkmine - Braille - CD - on Choke Records
Craw
- Craw CD - on Choke Records
Jaks - Hollywood Blood Capsules - on Chore
Records - An intense jesus lizard type.
Cherubs
- Icing CD - very demented cover picture - great pounding
angry noise.
BrainBombs - Taste and Power - Genius and
Brutality - BlackJack Rec. - PsychoNoise
Head
of David - Dustbowl - CD - Another good one that
is hard to find. If you do you will end up paying a zillion
dollars for it (anything over $18 is a zillion) This may also
fit under the psychotic
rock section
Terminal Cheesecake - CD I heard things...
Unsane - Had one CD on AmRep
So, who did we forget??
Note: we mainly want to list bands from the 80's and 90's.
